When people imagine engagement photos, they often picture fancy outfits and posed moments. But the truth is, the best engagement sessions are the ones that feel real. That’s exactly what happened with M & P’s sunset session in Montreal — casual, spontaneous, and full of laughter.
There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to engagement photos. Some couples love dressing up in something elegant and polished, while others feel most themselves in comfy jeans and a hoodie. Neither is better — they simply tell different stories. What matters most is staying true to you. M & P embraced a totally effortless look that reflected their relaxed personalities, and it worked beautifully. Their casual outfits allowed them to move freely, laugh hard, and fully enjoy the moment — and that authenticity shines through in every single photo.
We wandered the cobblestone streets of Montreal, close to canal Lachine, as the sun began to set. That golden hour light hit just right — soft, warm, and flattering. We paused by old brick buildings, found quiet corners where they could just be silly together, and even ended up dancing in the street at one point.
My favorite moment? When P scooped M up in his arms and they both burst out laughing. It was spontaneous and light-hearted — a perfect reflection of their dynamic. Moments like that are why I love shooting engagement photos in Montreal. The city offers such rich texture and light, but it’s the couples that bring the soul.
M & P’s session was so fun, we ended up chatting and connecting over relationships, and shared values, and so much more. After their wedding (which I was also lucky enough to photograph!), we stayed in touch and became friends. That’s the thing about this work — sometimes, you don’t just gain clients, you gain community.
They’ve already hinted at what’s next — they want me to capture their baby photos when that day comes. I can’t even explain how much that means to me. Being invited to document all the big milestones — not just the wedding, but everything that follows — is the deepest honor.
If you’re planning your own session and wondering what to wear, here’s what I always tell my couples: go with what feels most authentic to you. Whether that means dressing to the nines or showing up in your favorite hoodie and sneakers, what matters most is that your style reflects who you are together. Some of my favorite engagement photos have featured laid-back, casual looks — others have been more polished and elegant. Both can be equally stunning.
The magic doesn’t come from the outfit — it comes from the connection. It’s about the way you smile at each other, the way you hold hands, the way you laugh like no one’s watching. When you feel comfortable and true to yourselves, that’s what makes the photos timeless.
Whether you’re planning something fancy or keeping it casual, your engagement photos should feel like you. I’m here to help you capture those in-between moments, the big laughs, the quiet glances — everything that makes your love story one-of-a-kind.
If you’re dreaming of engagement photos in Montreal (or beyond), I’d love to help you bring your vision to life. Let’s create something that’s not just beautiful, but that represents you!
