A little while ago, I had a boudoir maternity photoshoot scheduled with A, a sweet mom-to-be who was so excited to celebrate her pregnancy. Everything was set—outfits picked, mood boards shared—but then, as it often happens in life, things took a little detour. Just before the shoot, I got a text from A: she was stuck in traffic!
The stress in her messages was clear. She’d been looking forward to this boudoir maternity photoshoot for weeks, but now, with traffic making her late, she was worried everything would fall apart. She was feeling stressed and guilty about losing precious time for the session. Of course, I reassured her that everything would be fine—we all know that sometimes life just happens.
When A finally arrived, you could tell the traffic had really thrown her off. She walked in apologizing, looking flustered, and clearly stressed from the hectic morning. A kept saying how she felt bad for being late and how frazzled she was. I could see she was feeling anything but relaxed or beautiful, which is the exact opposite of how I want my clients to feel during a boudoir maternity photoshoot.
I introduced A to Rachel, my amazing makeup artist. She welcomed A into the makeup chair, and I could already see A beginning to relax. Sometimes all it takes is a warm greeting and a comfortable chair to start the process of unwinding!
While Rachel started working on A’s hair and makeup, we all started chatting about her pregnancy journey. We talked about everything from how her partner is handling the nesting phase to the weird and wonderful world of pregnancy cravings. The conversation was easy and light and fun. We talked about life, laughed and were having a blast! And little by little, I could see A’s shoulders relax and the stress from the traffic melt away.
This is one of the things I love most about a boudoir maternity photoshoot. It’s not just about the photos—it’s about the whole experience. Watching A go from frazzled and anxious to calm and comfortable was beautiful. This is exactly what these sessions are all about: giving moms the space to feel pampered, confident, and celebrated.
As Rachel worked her magic, A started to open up even more. She shared how nervous she had been about the shoot—wondering if she’d be able to pull off the poses or feel confident in front of the camera, while feeling like a beast as she said. I reassured her (as I do with all my clients) that a boudoir maternity photoshoot isn’t about perfection. It’s about capturing the beauty of this moment in your life, exactly as you are.
Once her hair and makeup were finished, A looked in the mirror and couldn’t stop smiling. She gasped, you could see the transformation happening before our eyes—not just in her look but in her mindset. She went from feeling stressed to feeling empowered, and it was such a wonderful thing to witness. She felt absolutely beautiful, thanks to Rachel!
When we started shooting, A completely rocked it. She moved with such confidence, owning every moment. She went from a bundle of nerves to this fierce, radiant mama who absolutely owned her boudoir maternity photoshoot. She looked stunning in every shot, and as the session went on, she just got more and more comfortable. At one point, she even started laughing and throwing in some playful poses, and it was just pure joy to capture.
By the end of the shoot, A was glowing—not just from her pregnancy but from the inside out. She walked out of the studio with a smile that hadn’t been there when she first arrived. The whole experience had given her a new sense of confidence and appreciation for her body during this beautiful chapter of her life.
That’s the magic of a boudoir maternity photoshoot. It’s not just about taking pretty pictures—it’s about creating a space where moms-to-be can relax, let go of the stress, and feel truly beautiful. A’s transformation from stressed to glowing is why I love doing these shoots. Every mom deserves to feel celebrated and gorgeous during this special time.
So, if you’re on the fence about booking a boudoir maternity photoshoot, remember A’s story. Even if your day starts off a little rough, or you’re feeling like a beast, there’s always time to reset, relax, and step into your power. You’ve got this, mama!
